Lead Hurts Kids. Keep Your Child Safe.

The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at the Midland County Health Department provides education on lead prevention, lead testing, referrals, and follow-up to reduce lead levels in children and prevent further exposure. Home visits by a Public Health Nurse will be offered to families with a child, or multiple children, experiencing elevated blood lead levels.

Blood Lead Testing

BLOOD LEAD TESTING IS RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN BETWEEN ONE AND TWO YEARS OF AGE. This age group is most vulnerable to lead poisoning due to the child's developmental stage (crawling and putting items in their mouth).

In addition, it is recommended that all children between the ages of three and six, that have not been previously tested for blood lead, be tested.

In Midland County, blood lead testing can be done at the Midland County Health Department, or your child's doctor's office.

To schedule a capillary (finger poke) lead screening at the Health Department, please call (989) 832-6665. To speak with a Registered Nurse regarding lead questions, please call (989) 832-6629.
